if you are buying to sell on for profit you are a trader

Ae you selling your owm no longer wanted items?

If you are you're a private seller.

If you buy to resell, you're a dealer. Looking at your listings, it could be said you're a football program dealer.

there are some people in this world who won't know what hit them if  the tax man catches up with them

you should read the warning in the gardian and not think it cannot happen to you

If you buy to sell or make items to sell then you are classed as a dealer and should be registered as dealer with ebay and notify the tax man.

The tax office has already announced that they are looking at people selling on ebay

Wether you make a profit or loss or break even, if you are buying items to sell on you are trading as a business.

The inland revenue will still require you to submit a tax return even if you are making no money and there is also a section to fill in if you are making a loss

I have already had a letter from the tax man about my ebay dealings. Fortunately I am properly registered with the tax people, vat, and registered as a business ( other accounts ), so I know they are taking steps as they said they would, to make sure sellers comply.

if you can show that its just your own, no longer wanted stuff, and that you are not buying to sell on, you should be ok.

The amount you buy and sell is irrelavent to HMRC.

You appear to be buying and selling the same sort of items. That would make it even more likely you're a trader to the tax office.

it's actually anyone acting in the course of a business

that can also be selling (and/or buying) items connected with a seller's trade or business

in your case you perhaps seem to be selling a private collection...so unless you demonstrably sought to regularly deal or the items relate to your trade or business you shouldn't have too much to worry about
