I HAVE COMPLAINED TO E-BAY ABOUT THIS AND THEIR RESPONSE IS THAT WE ARE IN COMPETITION WITH OTHER ONLINE SHOPS THAT PROVIDE FREE POSTAGE .... BUT OTHER ONLINE SHOPS ARE SELLING MILLIONS OF ITEMS, SELL AT A FIXED PRICE, AND HAVE DEALS WITH POSTAGE SERVICES. MOST EBAYER'S ARE JUST SELLING A COUPLE OF ITEMS SO I DON'T SEE HOW THE TWO COMPARE .... SO NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR LISTING FEE, FINAL VALUE FEE, PAY-PAL TRANACTION FEE, AND RECORDED DELIVERY TO PROTECT MY ITEMS ....... HOW CAN WE MAKE ANY MONEY ????
EVEN IF BUYERS PAY MORE FOR ITEMS WITH FREE POSTAGE, EBAY CAN NOW TAKE A BIGGER CUT IN THE FINAL VALUE FEE. PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE, E-MAIL E-BAY AND START YOU OWN POSTINGS .. THE MORE WE COMPLAIN, THE QUICKER WE CAN HAVE THIS CRAZY IDEA REMOVED ..
I completely agree with you. I'm disgusted with the new 'free postage' rule. I will sell what I have on now and not bother next time. At the end of the day I'm not a charity.
The free postage is just a con trick by ebay and is PURE GREED.
All they are doing is getting a BIGGER slice of the pie and it will not stop here.
Postage still has to be paid for but now it has to be added into the price and guess what you cant even sell a cd for 99p now and not pay insertion fees because you cant afford to post it.
GREEEEEEEEEEEED ALL THE WAY.
Someone at ebay must have had a great big fat politician type bonus suggesting that idea.
It is like Microsoft unfortunatley there is no alternative.
Why can we not have a GoogleBay or VirginBay?????
And have a MoneyMate account instead of Paypal.
Actualy MoneyMate sounds good So I now state that MoneyMate belongs to me and is not available to Ebay or Paypal or any of their affilliated companies.
Mr Branson please note that you can use that name if you wish to set up in competition.
i totally agree. it really annoyed me! when im selling a low cost item, it means that i have to get the bidding up to the postage cost before i can break even. I have always thought a great thing about ebay is that you can ask customers to pay the postage costs, I always send my items recorded post to ensure quick and safe delivery, and I never charge over the actual amount i am paying and im really insulted that ebay have now taken over and made me send the items for free. according to ebay this is because of buyers opinions of what is a reasonable cost for postage. but everyone will obviously say that it should be free! you would have the item free too if it was an option!
Its not that your posts offend me its just that there pointless. like you, I could go in to any post where eBayer's are complaining and tell them to go elsewhere, but what's the point in that. I put this post here for eBayer's interested in the subject of FORCED FREE POSTAGE.
I'm fully aware there are many other options out there in the world, but I like e-bay and want to continue using it. I'm not interested in posting to you anymore but feel free to have the last word ....

Well, if this is your idea of how you treat your customers, all I can say that your leaving eBay is probably a very good idea.
I always obtain proof of postage and will happily send this to you should any item go astray in the postal system so you can make a claim.

but surely if most sellers are unhappy with this then going eleswhere is the best option as one would assume that if so many were unhappy it would cause enough of a dent in ebays profits to make ebay backtrack on this and possibly other policies
of course if you are unable to do this because no other place as the same buyer base as ebay then one could argue that ebay is offering value for money
better to take less profits than no profits surely
Just like many of you, I'm affected by this change. I mostly sell games, DVD's & CD and a few other bits and bobs. Obviously DVD Free Post was enforced a while back, and now games.. I cant see it being long before they go and impose this limit on Music CD's too, it does afterall seem the next logical step. I know people say to add postage into starting prices, but sometimes that can push the limits of a sensible start price. It's going to be an interesting time, this next few weeks.
FURTHER REFERENCE TO THE DISGUSTING FREE POSTAGE RULE
IF FREE POSTAGE HAS TO BE THE FIRST OPTION THEN STATE IN THE ADVERT THAT FREE POSTAGE WILL ONLY APPLY IF THE ITEM REACHES A CERTAIN AMOUNT OTHERWISE THE SECOND OPTION APPLIES AND STATE THE POSTAGE TO BE PAID.
My music tastes are a little unusual, so I find it hard to get the DVDs and CDs I want in regular shops. I have bought lots of stuff from ebay in the past. I just noticed that since the new rules on postage came into play, I have very few options come up on search results. I'm worried that ebay has shot itself in the foot on this one.
I have reported this to Watchdog as I feel it is totally unfair and Ebay do not seem to acknowledge their wrong doing. For anyone else interested and who would like to report this also the website is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/
It is OBVIOUS they have only done it for their own gain. I have made watchdog aware of these forums also so they will have a good understanding of what has been done. Anyways are you an Ebay employee or something? You seem to put your pennies worth in everytime someone is upset with Ebay....
#19 I spoke to Ebay on the phone and their representative told me to put in the item description that free postage only applies to collection in person and to add that £x would be charged for postage. I have done this on my items but it has caused me lots of problems. So to be told by a representative to do this means you cannot be breaking the rules.
It is OBVIOUS they have only done it for their own gain
But do you really think that is how it would come across on Watchdog?
I'm sure they'd just love the opportunity to defend this policy on TV, unlike the complaining sellers they'd look whiter than white - great publicity and a perfect launch-pad for even more restrictive rules.
Keep going, you are playing right into their hands.

You either asked the wrong question or misunderstood the anwer - nice try but don't expect your listings to be around for long.
I too agree thaty forced free postage is WRONG ! It cost me money to buy packaging, it costs my time to package the item and it costs me money to send a losw cost item. E-bay used to complain that some unscrupulous sellers were deliberately reducing the price of their item and offering postage at an exhorbitant price to circumnavigate e-bay fees. they were right to try to stop that kind of behaviour. BUT CANT THEY SEE THEY ATRE BEING UNSCRUPULOUS THEMSELVES IN EXACTLY THE SAME MANNER NOW ???? They are forcing free postage.... so they can gain a cut out of the final sale price which now includes the cost of postage. TOTALLY UNFAIR and their response to my complaints have been weak and transparent. After my final group of sales I shall be quitting selling on e-bay. I can't believe they can stand behind this ruling and say it's fair.
This enforced Free Postage is totally wrong. To cover the postage costs, the seller will have to increase the starting price thus incurring a higher insertion fee and then have to pay more with final value fees. I will stop selling now and only use ebay for bargan purchases.
Ebay will loose out in the end if they don't reverse this decission.
In an ideal world we would all have equal rights 'but' that is it the big 'BUT' capitalism rules. I am just a buyer now but even so have sympathy with what happens to your average Joe Bloggs. (I think I missed my calling in politics!!!!) Hope all this ends with both buyers and sellers happy!
