HOPEFULLY ONE OF THE PINKS WILL BE KIND ENOUGH TO PIN THIS................................................ An ultra violet pen costs just a pound or so and some police stations actually give them away free for marking your own effects at home. An ultra violet reader/light can easily be purchased either off ebay or your local lighting shop for around ten pounds. This is not an alternative nor is it a guaranteed proof like a picture is,so for dearer items i would always back it up with a decent picture with your trading name on.It is more of a deterent than a written proof but i can prove it has worked in the past and have been told by several people on these boards that they have tried it also and it works.Please remember that if you send any item that has been paid for by paypal then you MUST send by a trackable means to prove it has been delivered,this pen is not proof - it is for your peace of mind as a seller. I want to point out that most ebayers are very respectable but as you must be aware from reading these boards there are several bad eggs out there. If you are new to selling you are an easier target to scammers as you will want to protect your feedback and do what you think is the 'right thing to do' by refunding potential scammers. The UV pen has been around for a long time but very few people use them,it is invisible to the naked eye and can be used on practically everything and doesnt have to be a huge signature - it could just be your initials or something personal to you like your postcode. I have been in the computer/console selling trade for a couple of years on ebay and several more at a shop and specialise in games more than anything else.I have noticed slowly increasing numbers of returns all over the boards claiming not to be working when we sellers know full well they did.Some of these before i used the pen i was sure that they were not the discs i sent out but had no proof but with the pen i am a lot more confident and have seen off a couple of potential scammers with the evidence of my sig. Before i tried the uv pen i had to take the buyers word for it and graciously refund any monies due but it wasnt until i sent out a brand new but not sealed game that i saw the light.A buyer claimed it didnt work so i asked for it to be returned which they did and when i checked it, i saw a deep scratch and several other marks that i 100% know were not there when it was sent. I challenged this particular buyer who did the all so common paypal chargeback and when they had won their money back despite my best efforts and proof of delivery they sent me an email saying words to the effect that they had knowingly ripped me off.Wrong person to admit that too! For just a few pounds you can stop this by protecting yourself and putting in your terms of sale: 'I use a UV pen to mark my items for my own protection' It may not be much but over the past 6 months i have found no buyer has challenged my description.It is not a threat but it is letting them know that you have taken extra precautions to cover yourself.After all it is your item and your hard earnt moolah at stake here! Couple of faq's: Surely someone can buy a uv pen and forge my sig? 'They could but a sig would be almost impossible to copy 100% and they would only get one chance.Combine this with the fact they would have to outlay the cost of buying a uv pen and uv reader to try this in the first place.This idea is really aimed at smaller businesses or personal effects sellers with smaller items for sale - the average joe doesn't have one of these pens and for an item only valued at twenty pounds it simply would not be worth their while buying one just to rip you off. Wont the uv pen mark show up over the years?
